E is for Estevez


    Luis Estevez was born in Havana, Cuba in 1930.
    He attended prep school in the U.S. and then returned to Havana to study architecture.   
    One summer he got a job at the New York Lord & Taylor store which sparked his interest in fashion.
    He studied at the Traphagen School of Fashion in New York.
    After which he went to Paris and worked for Patou for two years.
    In 1955 when Estevez returned to New York he joined the company Grenelle, Ltd. and eventually became a partner in Grenelle-Estevez.
    1956 marked the year that he received the Coty Award.
    In 1968 Estevez moved to Hollywood where he designed clothing for actresses such as Lana Turner and Natalie Wood.
    He received the Hispanic Designers Life Time Achievement Award in 1990.
    Luis Estevez still resides in California.
