F is for Furstenberg
Diane von Furstenberg was born Diane Simone Michelle Halfin in the year 1946 in Brussels, Belgium.
She attended the University of Geneva where she studied economics and through which she met her husband Prince Egon of Furstenberg.
In 1969 she apprenticed with the Italian textile company Angelo Ferretti. During which time she designed dresses with the company's silk jersey prints.
She presented her first solo collection in New York in 1972.
1974 marked the year that her infamous wrap dresses made their premier.
In 1997 she relaunched her wrap dresses marketing them to the young women who were scooping up her original 1970's dresses at vintage clothing stores.
1998 was the year her memoir Diane: A Signature Life was published.
In 2001 she hired Nathan Jenden as Creative Director and together they turned her brand into a full fashion collection.
Diane's flagship store is based in the West Village and she continues opening new shops around the world.
