Vintage Sewing Patterns

Today I brought about 1,000 vintage sewing patterns down to my brick and mortar store location of Lulu's Vintage!

I haven't counted the pieces of these patterns yet- but, it's something that I am planning on working on. It takes me about 10 minutes to count each set of pattern pieces and get the pattern folded and put back into it's envelope. I am inviting any vintage sewing pattern fanatics to stop by the store and check out my back-stock. My patterns range from the 1920's-1980's.

Storing vintage sewing patterns can pose a problem. I have found the best solution are cardboard comic book storage boxes which come with a lid and are easily stack-able. I picked mine up at Excalibur Books & Comics (2444 S.E. Hawthorne Blvd).

Tramp! What You Call Me? Tramp.

Tramp art that is (I couldn't resist using some of the lyrics from one of my favorite Otis Redding songs as the title for this post, when else might I get a chance to use a title such as this). Also known as prison art. While serving time prisoners would while away the hours by creating useful objects out of cigarette packs...

Vintage Found Objects

Today I found these cool assemblages of found objects for sale over on Etsy. I consider the photographs of the objects to be artwork in their own right.

The photos remind me of an Italian photographer who takes photos of objects arranged by color. I love this guy's work but, I can't remember his name. I discovered his work when I bought some postcards in Amsterdam, each postcard featuring objects in a different color, I have also had a couple of calendars featuring his work.

I love arranging things by color- I find it so aesthetically pleasing. My obsession with color organization dates back to when I was a child and I would pour all of the Skittles out of the bag and arrange them in rows according to color. I also love the look of a collection of similar objects together.

Vintage Valentine's Cards

This morning I set out on a search over on Etsy for vintage Valentine cards and I got back ninety-four pages of results. I thought to myself okay, I am just going to look at twenty pages of cards, which turned to forty, which changed to sixty. You see, I simply can't help myself, the thought of leaving a page of Valentines cards unturned breaks my heart. But, for the sake of other pressing vintage business I had to nip my Valentine ogling in the bud after sixty pages. Posted below are my favorite Valentines. Vintage Baby Themed Planters

On the roadtrip that I took to the Midwest last Summer I came across tons of cute vintage baby themed planters. It got to the point where I couldn't resist buying one for my friend Shannon who had a baby boy in May of last year. I brought the little dog riding in a baby carriage planter over to Shannon filled with daisies and also gave her a Petite Maman postcard that I had bought her (she uses French in her job at a local book seller so when I saw the postcard at the Antique Expo I knew it was the perfect thing for her).

Vintage baby themed planters make the perfect gift for the vintage loving mom. Usually the space for flowers is small so it's best to use daisies or carnations, or you can plant a small ivy or African violets in them. If the planter is relatively unused it can be given to the new mom filled with ear swabs, cotton balls or sample sizes of baby care products.

Vintage Catalogs

One of my dream wardrobes would be a closet full of vintage Fredericks of Hollywood clothing from the 1940's-1960's...chic and sexy- though, the odds of this ever happening is incredibly slim- I feel fortunate to own a book called Fredericks of Hollywood, 1947-1973: 26 Years of Mail Order Seduction which I can flip through for fashion inspiration. It would be fun to own one of the original catalogs.
