Fashion Fridays Flashback! Lulu's Powder Blue Winter Coat

I thought that I would mix things up here on Fridays by occasionally sharing photos of me dressed in vintage and vintage inspired outfits from the past...

This vintage powder blue coat with fleecy collar and cuffs was one of my favorites. It was perfect for staying warm and stylish in the snow!

My coat is similar in style to the one on this Matthew Sweet "Girlfriend" album cover. By the way this album is fabulous, I used to listen to it over and over again.

I first saw this coat  when I visited Ang at Dorothea's Closet Vintage in Des Moines last year. It reminded me a lot of my coat. I have intended to write about ever since I saw it but, I never have until now. Unfortunately, this coat is on layaway and therefore is no longer for sale.

Fashion Fridays! Lulu's New Vintage Inspired Hairstyle and Dress

This past Wednesday I went and got my haircut by a vintage style lovin' lady named Layla Sullivan of KOiPOD Salon (3442 S.E. Belmont Street, 503-231-4141) here in Portland, Oregon. Layla cut my hair in a layered style that highlighted the natural wave of my hair. I love this new romantic wavy hairdo!

After getting my hair done Chris and I headed over to one of our favorite parks in Portland: Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden for some bird watching and some photo taking. We were happy to see that the crocus and daffodils were blooming as well as some of the trees in the park. It was such a gorgeous day, the type of day that gives you hope that Spring is right around the corner. Chris took some photos of me with my new hairstyle and I thought that I would post the one above to share with you my new hairdo as well as my vintage inspired dress.

I recently bought this dress at Target along with another very similar one that is black and purple. This style of dress is cute as well as comfortable and reminds me of some similarly Art Nouveau influenced patterned dresses that I have from the 1970's. I added my own bit of personal flair to the dress with a black satin sash and a Chanel-esque black satin bow and white flower pin.

In the beginning of Fashion Fridays I would painstakingly track down new clothing that looked like vintage clothing and vintage clothing that looked as though it had inspired the new clothing. After a couple of years of that I dropped my workload to just finding new clothing that looked like vintage clothing without including examples of vintage items that were similar. Well, I thought that I would ring in my first Fashion Fridays! post of 2010 with going back to the old school posting style of years past- featuring the new clothing along with "inspirational" vintage clothing (this time I had to look no further than my own online store to find an inspirational vintage piece).
